2024 Houston: Big City, Bigger Flavor

Houston was a trip full of surprises. I expected Southern charm and good food—but what I didn’t expect was how much culture, art, and energy the city carries. It’s big—everything is big in Texas—but it also has depth. I came for the food, stayed for the vibe, and left feeling like I’d only scratched the surface.

🍴 Best Places to Eat

The Breakfast Klub
This was my first stop and it set the tone. I waited in line (worth it), ordered the wings and waffles, and let me tell you—it was comfort food perfection. The seasoning, the crunch, the syrup? No notes. Just delicious.

Turkey Leg Hut
This spot has a reputation for being extra—and it lives up to it. I ordered the stuffed turkey leg with Cajun alfredo pasta inside (yes, inside), and it was as wild and satisfying as it sounds. Go hungry and wear something stretchy.

Lucille’s
For a more refined Southern dining experience, Lucille’s brought the flavor and the ambiance. I had fried green tomatoes and oxtail tamales in a cozy historic house. Black-owned, beautifully plated, and full of soul.

🎡 Top Things to Do

Houston Aquarium
One of the most memorable stops! We spent hours exploring the aquarium, watching stingrays glide, sharks circle, vibrant fish light up the tanks and watched the white tiger. There was even a Ferris wheel and rides outside for that extra touch of fun. It’s family-friendly but still exciting as an adult—and the underwater tunnel walk was everything.

Graffiti Park (Houston Graffiti Building)
I spent hours here just walking around taking in the street art. It’s colorful, powerful, and tells stories without a single word. The perfect spot for photos, creativity, and reflection.

Museum District
I didn’t expect to find such a rich museum scene here, but the Houston Museum of African American Culture and the Museum of Fine Arts were both powerful. If you’re into history or visual art, this area will feed your soul.

Shopping at The Galleria
I didn’t plan to shop—but the Galleria pulled me in. Three stories, high-end designers, a skating rink, and food courts with everything from Asian fusion to gourmet sweets. I “window-shopped”... and maybe bought a bag.

🌃 Best Nightlife Spots

Chapman & Kirby
This spot had the exact energy I was looking for—grown and sexy. Live DJ, great food, and a mix of professionals, travelers, and locals all vibing. The drinks were strong, and the rooftop views were everything.

Prospect Park
Sports bar meets nightclub meets lounge. It gets packed on the weekends and the energy is wild. I went for happy hour and ended up staying half the night. Good music, patio seating, and just enough turn-up without going full club.

Axelrad Beer Garden
Something more chill, this outdoor space had string lights, hammocks, live music, and an open-air bar. It gave me backyard vibes with a city twist. I grabbed a drink, posted up in a hammock, and soaked in the night.

Houston was full of flavor—in the food, in the culture, and in the people. It’s a city that doesn’t need to impress you—it knows what it is. Whether you’re eating good, catching live music, snapping aquarium selfies, or vibing with locals, it has a way of making you feel right at home.
