Myrtle Beach: Ocean Views, Boardwalk Strolls & Southern Vibes

Myrtle Beach was all about that mix of beach town charm and laid-back fun. It wasn’t a “do it for the ‘Gram” kind of trip—it was the kind where you throw on flip-flops, eat something fried, and walk along the beach with no real plan. I didn’t come here looking for luxury—I came for ease. And Myrtle gave me just that.

This was our family girls’ trip in 2022, and we drove down from Columbus, Ohio—music blasting, snacks packed, and the kind of road trip laughs that make the journey just as fun as the destination. It was time to unplug, bond, and breathe in some salty air together.

And as fate would have it, our trip wrapped up right before Bike Week. As we were packing up and heading out, the bikers were rolling in deep—chrome shining, engines roaring, and the energy in the city starting to shift. You could feel the weekend about to turn all the way up, and it added that extra spark of excitement as we said goodbye.

🍤 Best Places to Eat

Sea Captain’s House
This oceanfront spot was a gem. I had shrimp and grits while watching the waves roll in from the patio. The seafood was fresh, the service was friendly, and the hush puppies? Dangerous in the best way.

Big Mike’s Soul Food
I found this one tucked away and immediately felt like I made the right choice. Fried chicken, collard greens, yams, and cornbread that felt like someone’s grandma slid it across the table. No-frills, all flavor.

River City Café
Right on the beach, super casual, and known for big burgers and laid-back vibes. I sat outside, toes in the sand, burger in hand—exactly what I needed after a beach day.

🌊 Top Things to Do

Walk the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk
From arcades and fudge shops to live music and street performers, the boardwalk had that fun, touristy energy without feeling overwhelming. I stopped for ice cream, listened to a guy play acoustic guitar, and watched families make memories.

SkyWheel Myrtle Beach
I almost skipped it, but I’m glad I didn’t. The view from the top was stunning—ocean on one side, city lights on the other. I took the ride at sunset, and it turned into one of my favorite moments of the trip.

Beach Lounging & Sunrise Watching
I got up early one morning, grabbed a towel, and just sat on the beach to watch the sun come up. No music, no phone—just me, the breeze, and the waves. One of those quiet resets that hit deep.

🌙 Best Nightlife & Chill Spots

Broadway at the Beach
This place has a little bit of everything—bars, clubs, restaurants, and even firework shows. I bounced from live music at a dueling piano bar to sipping a cocktail by the water. It’s a full-on entertainment hub that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Carolina Comedy Club
I caught a show here on a random night and laughed harder than I had in weeks. It was a great way to switch up the pace and still keep the night fun.

Pier 14 Restaurant & Lounge
After dark, this spot turns into a mellow hangout. I grabbed a drink, listened to the waves below, and talked with a couple who’d been vacationing there for 30 years. That’s Myrtle Beach for you—welcoming, easy, and a little nostalgic.

Myrtle Beach wasn’t about being fancy—it was about being present. It reminded me that sometimes the best trips are the ones where you leave your heels at home, order the fried platter, and just relax. No pressure, no rush—just sun, salt, and soul shared with the women I love most.
