Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic – Cruise Edition
Puerto Plata was that “check out and chill” kind of stop on our Caribbean cruise. After days of excitement on the ship, this port gave me exactly what I needed: palm trees, mountain views, and coastal calm. As soon as we docked and made our way onto shore, Puerto Plata greeted me with warm air, smiling faces, and a vibe that said, “Relax. You’re good now.”
This wasn’t one of those days where I needed to plan every moment—I let the excursions and the island set the pace, and it didn’t disappoint.
🍴 Best Places to Eat
Private Beach Club Lunch (Excursion-Included)
We had a catered Dominican-style meal during one of our beach excursions. Fresh grilled fish, coconut rice, fried plantains, and tropical fruit served seaside—it was fresh, flavorful, and full of Caribbean soul.
Dining at Playa Bachata Resort
We also spent time at Playa Bachata Resort, where we enjoyed beachside cocktails, a full buffet with Dominican and international options, and open-air dining with a view. The ambiance was relaxing, and the food hit the spot after a morning of fun in the sun.
Onboard Dining (Post-Port Refuel)
After a long, beautiful day ashore, I made it back just in time for dinner on the ship. That hot shower followed by a dressed-up dinner at the cruise’s steakhouse was the reset I didn’t know I needed.
🌴 Top Activities from the Cruise
Catamaran Cruise with Snorkeling
One of the best excursions I’ve ever booked. We cruised the coast, stopped to snorkel over coral reefs, and floated in water so clear it looked unreal. Onboard, there was music, rum punch, and dancing under the sun.
Visit to Playa Bachata Resort
We spent a few hours soaking up the vibe at Playa Bachata. The resort gave us access to beach chairs, pools, music, and a bar with tropical drinks flowing. It felt like a private escape, with just enough energy to keep things fun.
Cable Car to Mount Isabel de Torres
A scenic ride to panoramic views of Puerto Plata. At the top, there's a replica of Rio’s Christ the Redeemer statue and botanical gardens. The pictures don’t do it justice—this was peace on a mountaintop.
Beach Break at Playa Dorada
This excursion offered loungers, umbrella drinks, and views for days on one of Puerto Plata’s best beaches. I read, waded in the waves, and let the Caribbean sun work its magic.
🌙 Nightlife Vibes (Pre-Sail Away & Onboard)
Amber Cove Pier Party (Pre-Boarding)
Before heading back on the ship, there was live music at the pier—local drummers, dancers, and a mini send-off that kept the mood high.
Cruise Ship Entertainment (After Departure)
Back onboard, the fun didn’t stop. We hit a Caribbean deck party with a live band, danced by the pool, and caught a comedy show after dinner. The night wrapped with karaoke that went until the early hours.
Puerto Plata, as a cruise stop, delivered a mix of nature, rhythm, and slow island energy. It reminded me how valuable it is to step off the ship, breathe in fresh coastal air, and just be. No pressure, no schedule—just sun, music, and moments you didn’t see coming but won’t forget.
